Footnotes

  • Minerals from the Collection of John and Muriel Okladek
John Okladek (1929-2015) was a world traveler, a premier collector of art objects, and an occasional consultant to leading auction houses relative to some of his expertise. An aficionado of gems and minerals ever since his days at Pratt Institute, throughout his tenure as the Art Director of Sterling Drug, and while managing his own advertising/design firm, John, together with his wife Muriel (1931- ), amassed an impressive and desirable collection of mineral specimens. John, in fact, traveled to Brazil to purchase minerals directly from the mines. Muriel often chose pieces that uniquely suited her tastes, which has added to the breadth and variety of this collection. When they bought, they subscribed to the 'Warren Buffet approach" to investing: They almost never sold. Therefore, their collection has been off the market for possibly 40 years or more.
