    款識:
    (一)錯落珊瑚枝,鐵網出海底。吳昌碩老缶。
    (二)晨鐘未報樓閣曙,牆頭枝出玉蘭樹。南鄰老翁侵曉起,持贈一枝帶曉霧。卷簾遙望忽卻步,疑來蜀後宮中遇。貞白無慚靜女姿,醲薰乍覺芳蘭妒。妻孥指點畫不成,明月欲滿光難鑄。缶。
    (三)陶盦先生正,夕餐秋菊之落英。缶道人筆。
    (四)梅花鐵骨紅,舊時種此樹。艷擊珊瑚碎,高倚夕陽處。百匝繞不厭,園涉頗成趣。太息飢驅人,揖爾出門去。丁巳(1917)歲寒,七十四叟吳昌碩。
    (五)珠光。老缶時年七十又四。
    (六)僊人醉剝青紫皮,東老壁上曾題詩。累累子劈紅瑪瑙,不須更問鮮荔枝。東老謂沈東老。丁巳(1917)十二月吳昌碩。

    上款:「陶盦」應為西園寺公望(1894-1940),號陶庵。日本內大臣德大寺公純次子,伊藤博文得意門生。西園寺公望為明治、大正、昭和三朝政壇元老,於上世紀二十世紀初兩度出任首相。
    一九一八年春,吳昌碩創作「臨石鼓文四屏」(參見日本謙慎書道會編《逝世五十年——吳昌碩紀念展》,一九七七年八月),上款即屬「陶菴先生」。翌年一月,西園寺前往法國參加巴黎和會,途徑上海,於「六三園」參加宴會,吳昌碩與王一亭同列席中。當晚,西園寺與吳昌碩相談投契,並囑吳為其製印三方,「陶庵」、「公望之印」及「無量壽佛」,後收錄於松丸東魚編《缶廬扶桑印集》。一九二五年,王一亭赴東瀛參加中日佛教大會,再次拜訪西園寺,回國後為其創作「陶盫先生畫像」,並得吳昌碩題跋。
