A Veronica Lake cloak from Miss Susie Slagle's
Paramount Pictures, 1946. Designed by Edith Head and Mary Kay Dodson. Full-length forest green wool cloak with gold silk lining and hook-and-eye closure midway up the front, with a partial black silk belt, trimmed at the cuffs and hood, bearing an interior "Paramount" label inscribed, "Lake," in black ink. Sharing the screen with Lillian Gish was no small challenge for Veronica Lake, who plays a student nurse in this period piece about medical students at a boarding school. Lake wears this sumptuous design in a picturesque winter scene in which she laments being away from home for Christmas. Accompanied by a vintage photo of Lake wearing the gown on the set between takes.
