VAN KIRK, THEODORE "DUTCH". 1921-2014.
Enola Gay. New York: Stein & Day, 1977.
Publisher's cloth-backed boards, pictorial dust jacket. Wear to jacket, ownership blindstamp on free front endpaper.

DOUBLE SIGNED AND INSCRIBED, BY VAN KIRK, with a signed and annotated drawing of his image of the mushroom cloud and the Enola Gay just after impact, drawn out on the front free endpaper by Van Kirk, and a 2pp summary by Van Kirk, in ballpoint pen, laying out the reasons for the use of the Atomic bomb on Hiroshima, on the verso of the front free endpaper and the half title, We dropped the bomb to destroy the many military targets in Hiroshima, to destroy the Japanese will to fight, to save the lives of our POW's ... and to end the war and stop the killing." Van Kirk was a regular on the publicity circuits from 1945 onwards, and this copy was signed and inscribed for the present owner. This example is particularly interesting with the addition of the sketch and statement.
