Footnotes

  • Thought to be the earliest tourbillon with an inclined escapement. Apparently built on a modified Series I Howard ebauche.

    Provenance
The Time Museum, Inventory No. 2291

    Literature
Randall, Anthony G. The Time Museum Catalogue of Chronometers,pp 283-84, no. 135 (Cataloged with the watches of Albert H. Potter, but attributed to probably another.)

It is discussed in the context of the change of rate of a tourbillon between the vertical and horizontal positions. An inclined balance would tend to alleviate this. The theoretical angle to average the difference is 45° but to avoid excessive thickness of this movement, the balance is inclined about 25° to plane of tourbillon.

Hoke, Donald R. The Time Museum Historical Catalogue of American Pocket Watches pp 296-97, no. 329 (Attributed to Andrew H. Potter)
