di Rosa Center for Contemporary Art, based in Napa California, was established by devoted art patrons Rene and Veronica di Rosa. The di Rosas purchased over 400 acres of the Huichica Land Trust, on the border between Napa and Sonoma counties, in 1960. They brought back to life the old stone winery and in studying viticulture at the University of California at Davis, Rene di Rosa befriended artists and professors including Manuel Neri, Roy de Forest and Robert Arneson, among others. Through these relationships di Rosa became a lifelong art collector and arts patron, serving on the Board of Trustees of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, The San Francisco Art Institute and New York's Whitney Museum National Committee.
di Rosa Center for Contemporary Art is the only foundation in existence with such a significant collection of Bay Area artists from the post-World War II period onwards. It was developed from the vision of Rene and Veronica di Rosa and built upon long standing relationships with the artists of Northern California.
Hosting the Viola Frey retrospective in 2019, the di Rosa Center for Contemporary Art continues to further the study of contemporary art in the Bay Area to this day. These works are being sold to benefit the future of the di Rosa and further its mission as a catalyst for transformative experiences with contemporary art of Northern California.
