The standing figure carved from a single block of wood and painted in green, red, white, and gray pigment with black details, dressed in a robe with a ribbon sash, his gently smiling face showing dimples on his cheeks and chin, his hair gathered in two small buns, a book tucked under his right arm and his left hand poised to hold a writing brush (the top now lost), inscribed on the underside of the base with a Kangxi-period reign date corresponding to 1706 and with the cipher of the carver
