Seymchan Meteorite – Polished and Etched Complete Slice
Iron, Coarse Octahedrite, IIE Pallasite
Magadan District, Russia
Pallasites provide a glimpse of the internal structure of differentiated asteroids; their chemical makeup and visual texture suggest they formed near the mantle/core boundary of a parent body. Here is a representation of the inner workings of an asteroid, a marvelous complete slice boasting golden olivine (peridot.) Both sides of this beautiful specimen exhibit the polished and etched Widmanstätten crystalline structure of the interior of the meteorite.
