ADAMS, HANNAH. 1755-1831. ADAMS, THOMAS "BOOK". 1725-1812.
Daubuz, Charles. A Perpetual Commentary On The Revelation Of St. John. London: Printed for Benj. Tooke, 1720.
4to. Annotated throughout, with an additional (approx) 14 pp of autograph notes as front and back matter, also by Thomas Adams. Modern calf, morocco labels.
Provenance: Thomas Adams (annotations, pencil note to title page); Meadville Theological School (perforated stamp to title page).

HANNAH ADAMS' FAMILY COPY, ELABORATELY ANNOTATED BY HER FATHER THOMAS ADAMS, with both original materials and citations of relevant works from early and contemporary sources from Newton to Mather, nearly every page filled from margin to margin with relevant notes on the text.

Hannah Adams was the first American female author to earn a living from her profession, and her early development withing the library of her father are well documented. She authored four books, beginning in 1784 with An Alphabetical Compendium of the Various Sects which have appeared in the world from the beginning of the Christian Era to the present day, and was given free access to the library at the venerable Boston Atheneum in 1832. Her father Thomas "Book" Adams was originally a successful farmer, until he made the fateful decision to sell the farm and become a bookseller. This obsessively annotated work is a testament to the scholarly acumen of both father and daughter, and offers valuable insights into Hannah Adams and her family.
