Footnotes

  • Introduced in 1979, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class 'Geländewagen' (tough terrain vehicle) was the result of a joint venture with Steyr-Daimler-Puch, a firm with considerable experience in developing four-wheel drive systems for off-road vehicles. Its purposeful appearance – fundamentally unchanged throughout its life – and engineering excellence has secured the 'G-Wagen' cult status, making it one of the most coveted of classic 4x4s. Taking its cue from the rival Land Rover, the early G-Wagen was not luxurious by any means, featuring manually wound windows and fabric upholstery, but soon established a reputation for being able to traverse the most challenging terrain. This capability was emphatically demonstrated in 1983 when a 280GE crewed by Jacky Ickx and Claude Brasseur won what is arguably the toughest off-road event in the world, the Paris-Dakar Rally.

The 1st Series 280GE offered here is powered by a 2.8-litre six-cylinder engine and has the desirable double rear doors. Un-restored and described by the vendor as in excellent condition throughout, this superb G-Wagen retains its original paintwork and desirable black/grey chequered cloth interior. Other noteworthy features include driving lights, original Blaupunkt radio, original Boss alarm, and modern refrigerant in the air conditioning system. The car is offered with Spanish Permiso de Circulación, current technical inspection, and its service book containing a full maintenance record.

•Séduisant modèle de la première série
    •Excellent état d'origine
    •Historique d'entretien complet
