  • A near identical 18th century oval pressed horn box with an equestrian portrait of Peter the Great can be found in the Worshipful Company of Horners collection held at Museum of Design in Plastics, object number WCHL:20. This box is signed 'SL' (Samuel Lambelet) who was a medallist to the court of Brunswick-Luneburg between 1698-1727.

    Another example can be found in the collection of The British Museum, (1889,0706.14), as well as a similar pressed tortoiseshell example (mounted as a medallion) made by John Obrisset.

    A silver box with a pressed cover very similar to this one was sold at Sotheby's, New York, 14 October 2015, lot 217.

27.5% on the first £10,000 of the hammer price;
25% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £10,000 up to and including £450,000;
20% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £450,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.
