Footnotes

  • The marble twin bust, dated 1927-28 resides in the Philadelphia Museum, USA.
In 1924 Mastbaum started to collect pieces by Auguste Rodin with the express desire to create a museum/gallery that would become a "place of pilgrimage" for art lovers.
Sadly Mastbaum died in 1926, and his wife, Etta Mastbaum, worked with architects Paul Cret and Jacques Gréber to complete the buildings and gardens. The museum first opened its doors to the public on November 29, 1929. The bust was commissioned by Etta Mastbaum to Henri Gréber, Jacques Gréber's father.
