Lot 478
1923 Stanley Steamer

Sold for US$ 8,064 inc. premium
1923 Stanley Steamer

The origin of the automotive industry brought many radical designs by those imaginative enough to build their own car. Stanley Steamer is one of the most widely recognized manufacturers of steam power automobiles form the industry's formative years. This Stanley Steamer is being sold as a roller, albeit, with much of its bodywork no longer mounted to the rolling chassis. Still retaining is its boiler and with much of its wooden frame and body structure intact, this is a great candidate for a restoration.

Saleroom notices

  • Please note that the correct chassis number for this car is 22274 which has been found on its chassis plate. according to Kelly Williams of the Stanley Register, this confirms the car to be a 1922 Model 740, which can trace history back to William Gramo of Connecticut in 1932, then later Bob Mead in the 1970s, and Carlton Nelson in the 1990s. It is likely that the body remnants that it carries today are not original to this car and were switched by Mr. Nelson. Additionally note, this vehicle is titled under the model year 1918 with chassis no. 22274D0R.
