With twist octagonal leaf-sighted barrel retaining some original browning and rifled with fifteen grooves, recessed case-hardened patent breech engraved with a scallop shell on the top flat, gold line and pierced platinum plug, foliate scroll engraved tang with a further scallop shell, border engraved flat detented lock signed on a rock in a landscape inhabited by a stag and decorated with foliate scrollwork, dolphin hammer with scrollwork en suite, figured half-stock with dark horn fore-end cap and chequered grip, border engraved blued steel mounts (loss of finish) decorated with scrollwork and comprising butt-plate and spur trigger-guard, the latter with a scallop shell on the bow, trigger-plate with pineapple-shaped finial engraved with a scallop shell, set trigger, vacant silver escutcheon, original horn-tipped ramrod with steel worm under a threaded brass cap, and some original finish: in original brass-mounted mahogany case fitted and lined in burgundy velvet with spare dolphin hammer, tubular brass powder- and shot-measure, and some brass ramrod accessories, the exterior of the lid with shaped brass escutcheon plate with a fleur-de-lys on each side and flush-fitting brass carrying handle, and with a border of decorative brass stringing, Birmingham proof marks
