A LEITH THISTLE GOLF WINER MEDAL SCORECARD DATED 1820
Mr. Cundell's card showing that he played the five holes within the Musselburgh Race Track twice, a total of ten holes in eighty-four strokes. This original scorecard dated 2 December 1820 is in remarkable condition considering its age and the weather conditions at the time of the game of golf and has been mounted and framed. Mr. Cundell has penned at the bottom of the card, 'Dreadful storm of wind and rain – atmosphere quite yellow – just like the lurid regions of Pandemonium.'

Footnotes

  • This score card is not only the oldest cards extant, it was once owned by Sir Henry Cotton and was part of the now-famous Henry Cotton 'Tin Black Box' that was found after he passed away. This box contained historical golf memorabilia that Cotton had collected over the years. The entire box was purchased at a Sotheby's Henry Cotton auction in the mid-1990s. Among the many important early documents in that box was this 199 year old scorecard. This scorecard predates even the oldest scorecards owned by the international golf museums.
