Footnotes

  • Between 1960 and 1963, OSCA completed 128 examples of its 1600GT, the greater majority (98) with bodies by Carrozzeria Zagato. The OSCA 1600 GT offered here, though, is the work of Carrozzeria Fissore, which bodied approximately 24 chassis, including three as cabriolets. The body is of steel construction with aluminium doors.

The history of chassis number '00103' is unclear until the late 1970s when the car was for sale at Rudy Pas in Holland, at that time finished in Alfa Romeo purple livery. It later resurfaced in Connecticut, USA in the ownership of John Geils of the then famous 'J Geils Band'. John restored the OSCA (he later owned a Ferrari restoration business) and painted it red. The car was later sold to the celebrated Swedish collector Hans Thulin, known for his Ferrari GTO and Bugatti Royale.

Subsequently put on display in a Swedish museum, the OSCA was purchased in 2002 from the latter by another Swede, Niklas Hannah. The car had seen little use since its restoration in the 1980s and needed no further work, merely re-commissioning, after which it was used for various events in Sweden and the Milan - San Remo in 2006 among others, while in 2007 it completed a 2,300-kilometre European tour without trouble.

In December 2008, Mr Hannah offered the OSCA for sale at Bonhams' Gstaad auction (Lot 215) where it was purchased by the current vendor. At that time it was stated that the engine had just been removed and rebuilt, its crankshaft being re-balanced and the camshafts replaced by new ones (photographs available). Since acquisition, the few relatively minor faults (dashboard instruments, seats, brake master cylinder) have been rectified and the car has been serviced regularly. It is understood that the bumpers and 'Fissore' script have always been missing.

Between 2008 and 2015, the car was registered with a normal licence plate requiring an annual technical inspection; since 2015, the present owner has registered it with a Belgian Carte Grise de Collection licence plate.

One of only a relative handful of known survivors, it represents an exciting opportunity to acquire a fine example of this rare Italian Gran Turismo eligible for a wide variety of the most important historic events.
