the case of arched rectangular form with applied bearded classical male maskheads and winged female sphinxes to the corners, the pediment inset with a plaquette depicting Chronos, the whole with ribbon tied floriate garland, foliate border, classical ewer and oil-lamp mounts, on plinth base, the 4.25" enamel dial with Roman numerals, the brass twin train movement with silk suspension and outside countwheel striking on a bell, 61cm high

  • Pierre-Victor Ledure (1783-c1840) was one of the leading bronziers in the early 19th century with an extensive and influential clientèle.
    Born in Paris, he began his training as an apprentice of the famous bronzier André-Antoine Ravrio (1759-1814) and Ravrio remained an important friend and influence on his work when he began to trade on his own.
    Several important collections feature his work including the Royal Pavilion, Brighton.
