RARE ORIGINAL MANUSCRIPT CHAPTER WITH PENCILED CORRECTIONS IN WEST'S HAND. A Cool Million was West's third novel and was a satire of the Horatio Alger series with the main character, Lemuel Pitkin, encountering one tragedy after another. The above chapter covers an episode where Pitkin saves an old man and his daughter from a runaway horse and carriage only to injure his eye, loose his teeth and be berated by the father and daughter due to a misunderstanding. Rare Book Hub shows no examples of West manuscript material on the auction market.
