SCHOEPFF, JOHANN DAVID. 1752-1800.

Schoepff was a doctor who served with the Hessian Ansbach Regiment in Rhode Island during the American Revolution. He became interested in the variety of mostly undocumented plants and animals in North America, and returned after the war to study them. He is said to have also prepared a manuscript on the birds of North America, but it was lost during his travels and never published.
