Together, 7 volumes. 4to (288 x 230 mm). Hand-colored engraved allegorical frontispiece in Volume I of first work, text of second work in both English and French (including title pages), engraved portrait of Edwards in Volume I of second work, 362 hand-colored engraved plates. Uniform contemporary calf gilt, spines decorated in gilt in 6 compartments, black morocco spine labels, marbled endpapers. Wear to extremities of binding, offsetting and light foxing throughout.

FIRST EDITIONS. Edwards's classic images show a variety of birds and other animals with plants and insects native to their habitats. Though two separate titles, the plates are numbered 1 to 210 in the first work, and 211 to 362 in the second work, making them "... considered as one and either must rank as imperfect without the other" (Sitwell Fine Bird Books p 93).
