Footnotes

  • It was Harold Radford who, in the mid-1960s, pioneered the then seemingly ludicrous but brilliant idea of a 'luxury' Mini with a series of bespoke cars that were finished, trimmed, and equipped to Rolls-Royce standards of excellence at his workshops at Hammersmith, West London. According to the accompanying copy of its BMIHT Certificate, this car left the factory on 23rd April 1965 in left-hand drive configuration destined for the Italian market. The list of options include a fresh air heater, oil cooler, laminated windscreen, and headlight flasher switch. The original colour was two-tone Almond Green and Old English White, while the Radford alterations include a full-length Webasto sunroof, wooden door cappings, a wood-trimmed dashboard, and additional instruments.

The vendor informs us that the Mini was ordered by an American gentleman living in Florence at that time, a certain Ferdinand Gordon Merril. In 2004, the heirs to Mr Merril's estate sold the car to another Tuscan resident, and it subsequently ended up in the vendor's collection. Although the Mini was largely good condition when purchased, the vendor decided to commission a comprehensive restoration, the result being a car that presents beautifully in lovely gold metallic with light blue trim. Accompanying documentation consists of Italian registration documents, ASI homologation papers, and the aforementioned BMIHT Certificate.

    • Icona automobilistica del 20 ° secolo
    • Modello originale con guida a sinistra
    • Venduta nuova in Italia
    • Splendidamente restaurata
