  • In 1989 Mercedes-Benz retired its classic Type 107 bodyshell that had been used for a succession of beautiful sports roadsters for almost the preceding 20 years, replacing it with an equally appealing, sleek new design in the modern idiom. This new Type 129 body style was used for three different engine types: 6.0-litre V12, 5.0-litre V8 and 3.0-litre straight six. As installed in the 500SL, the fuel-injected, 32-valve V8 produced 326bhp and delivered stupendous performance, delivering a 0-100km/h time of 6.2 seconds and a top speed of 250km/h. As one might expect, these new SL luxury sports cars were designed to be world leaders in their class and were lavishly equipped in the best Mercedes-Benz tradition.

    Finished in the desirable colour scheme of 'Brillantsilber' with blue leather interior, this outstanding example of Mercedes-Benz's luxury flagship was sold new in Switzerland to Mr Rene Zwald and registered for the first time 30th July 1993. The car was delivered by Mercedes-Benz in Zurich and serviced at the same dealership one year after delivery with only 3,261 kilometres recorded. Clearly, the Mercedes was used only infrequently and kept in as new condition. It later moved to Holland and was registered there in 2007.

    Impressed by the SL's incredible time-warp condition, the current owner bought it seven years later. He hardly drove the car and kept it in his private collection next to his 300 SL Roadster and Gullwing, grandfather of this Type R129 SL.

    The car comes compete with all books, tools, and the original pouch; stamped service booklet; Netherlands registration papers; and an Abgas-wartungsdokument showing that in 2007 it had travelled only 12,332 kilometres from new. Top of the range and the highest-performance model, European-delivered and little used, this is the one to have.

    En 1989, Mercedes-Benz abandonna sa coque classique Type 107 qui avait été utilisée pour une lignée de magnifiques roadsters sport pendant près de 20 ans en la remplaçant par un nouveau modèle fin et séduisant plus moderne. Cette nouvelle coque Type 129 fut employée avec trois types de moteurs : un V12 de 6 litres, un V8 de 5 litres et un six cylindres en ligne de 3 litres. Tel qu'il équipait la 500 SL, le V8 à 32 soupapes à injection délivrait 326 ch et permettait d'étonnantes performances avec un temps de 0 à 100 km/h de 6 , 2 secondes et une vitesse maximale de 250 km/h. Comme on peut le deviner, ces nouvelles et luxueuses SL conçues pour les élites du monde étaient abondamment et luxueusement équipées dans la meilleure tradition Mercedes-Benz.

    Peinte dans la très désirable teinte « Brillantsilber » avec intérieur en cuir bleu, cet exceptionnel exemplaire du luxueux porte-drapeau de la gamme Mercedes-Benz fut vendu neuf en Suisse à M. René Zwald et immatriculé pour la première fois le 30 juillet 1993. La voiture fut livrée par Mercedes-Benz de Zurich et révisée par le même concessionnaire un an après la livraison avec seulement 3 261 km au compteur. À l'évidence, cette Mercedes qui ne servait qu'épisodiquement fut conservée dans un état très proche du neuf. Elle émigra ensuite en Hollande où elle fut immatriculée en 2007.

    Impressionné par l'incroyable état intemporel de la SL, l'actuel propriétaire l'acheta sept ans plus tard. Il la conduisit très peu et la conserva dans sa collection privée auprès de ses 300 SL Roadster et « papillon », ancêtres de cette Type R129 SL.

    La voiture est accompagnée de tous ses livrets, outils et trousse d'origine, de son carnet d'entretien tamponné, de ses papiers d'immatriculation néerlandais et d'un Abgas-wartungsdokument montrant qu'en 2007, elle n'avait parcouru que 12 332 km depuis l'origine. Voiture haut de gamme absolue et modèle hautement performant, vendue en Europe et peu utilisée, c'est la 500 SL à acheter.
