Footnotes

  • As redolent of La Dolce Vita Italy as the immortal Vespa scooter, the 'beach car' is most famously embodied by Ghia's 'Jolly'. A novel and quintessentially Italian concept, the beach car saw humble saloons such as FIAT's 500 and 600 transformed from basic transport into conspicuous indicators of wealth. They found favour as courtesy transport for patrons of luxury hotels and golf courses or for use ashore after one had docked one's yacht on the Italian or French Riviera. Lacking doors and equipped with wickerwork seats, they were only practical as leisure transport, thus confirming the owner's status as someone who could afford a car 'just for fun'.

Finished in two-tone white with light blue, and equipped with wicker seats, this charming conversion is by Carrozzeria Holiday. The vendor informs us that the car was restored in 2014, and describes it as in excellent condition regarding the body and interior, while all the mechanicals are said to be in working order. The engine even benefits from an Abarth cylinder head. Ready to be enjoyed at your holiday home, or indeed as practical summer transport in the streets of Monaco, it comes with a cancelled Italian libretto.

    •L'icône de la Dolce Vita
    •Restaurée en 2014
    •Culasse Abarth
