Footnotes

  • The Tri-Compax was Universals most complicated chronograph and was first introduced in 1944. The name derives from the combination of Triple calendar and compax for chronograph.

The design of these watches was constantly evolving as Universal experimented with different configurations. In the 1960s Universal, keeping with the demands of the day, redesigned the Tri-Compax to appeal to a more casual and sports oriented market. The aesthetic of this model may be seen as a playful response to the Daytona and Speedmaster models of the same period.

The bezel insert of the present watch is a rare red and black variation of the standard black bezel inserts more commonly seen in this model. It is sold with its original steel bracelet made by Gay Frères.
