A rock crystal, diamond and ruby bangle, David Webb
designed as two opposing carved rock crystal and black enamel chimera heads, each with pear-shaped ruby eyes, round brilliant-cut diamond crowns, grasping a similarly cut diamond-set and black enamel circular panel, the collars set of similar design; signed Webb; accompanied by a signed fitted box; estimated total diamond weight: 9.15 carats; mounted in platinum and 18k white gold; gross weight approximately: 187.10 grams; circumference: 6 1/8in.

Footnotes

  • As a mythological creature, the Chimera is considered to be female, typically depicted as part lion, part goat and part dragon. Inspired by ancient Greece, David Webb found inspiration in this mystical beast for his Animal Kingdom collection. Although first created in 1973, the Chimera bracelet is still being made today, however the new style has shifted to modern, rectilinear lines and is heftier in size.

Purchased by the Domyan's in the 1970's, lot 99 is a rare example of Webb's earliest Chimera bracelet, made from his original design.
