Rim of each engraved with a shield and motto, diameter 11in (28cm); total weight approximately 424oz troy.

    Thomas Dawson, (1725-1813) was created Baron Cremorne of Dawson Grove. co. Monaghan in the Peerage of Ireland in 1770, and advanced to a viscounty in 1785.

    He had married Anne, daughter of the Earl of Pomfret in 1754. Following her death in 1769, his lordship married 'Philadelphia Hannah', only daughter of Thomas Freame of Philadelphia, by Margaretta, daughter of William Penn, the celebrated founder of that city. The children of both marriages died in their youth but the title devolved upon a great nephew from whom descended the Earldom of Dartrey created in 1866 for a Lord-in-Waiting to Queen Victoria. This title became extinct in 1933.
