    註:此兩幀所臨為莫高窟西魏二八五窟(大千敦煌編號第八十三窟)南壁禪室楣飾--「龕楣離婁」。離婁之意乃刻鏤之貌,顏色相交分佈之貌或綺窗穿通之貌,皆用來形容建築物的雕紋或顏色。「其在敦煌窟寺者,為扁鏟形圖案,多施於壁畫(或中心柱)佛龕上端的龕楣部位」。臺北故宮一九八五年出版的《張大千先生遺著莫高窟記》(頁182) 對此龕楣亦有存檔記錄,「錦禽、彩葉,南、北壁八小窟、窟楣」。

    兩幀皆以對稱纏枝忍冬紋為主體,花紋婉轉迴旋,青、綠、黃、朱、墨五色相間,明豔又不失藴藉。其一居中為一雙紅嘴綠鸚,相對靜立回望。另一居中為兩隻灰藍色馬雞,低頭引頸,似在對望和鳴。原石壁楣飾邊緣所繪火焰紋,象徵佛法光明照耀,則未見於摹本。

    莫高窟龕楣裝飾大多出現在北朝和隋代的窟室中,這種裝飾在初唐還有少量遺存,之後逐漸消失,存世極為少見。在諸多龕楣裝飾中,以莫高窟二八五窟南北壁上的八個禪室楣飾,尤為精美。禪室楣飾亦如佛龕楣飾,區別是禪室為僧人所用,其楣飾忍冬紋中間繪以禽鳥,代表人間自然美好景致。《洛陽伽藍記》記載,「簷宇清淨,美於叢林,眾僧房前,高林對牖,青松綠檉,連枝交映」、「誦室禪堂,周流重疊。花林芳草,遍滿階墀」,禪室楣飾上圖案亦反應了禪室乃是人間仙境所在。

    據考,二八五洞窟是莫高窟最早有紀年的洞窟,也是早期內容最豐富的洞窟。從北魏開始到西魏,龕楣裝飾發生演變,在纏枝忍冬紋中增加禽鳥。圖案的表現技法,吸收從西域傳來的凹凸明暗畫法,同時融入傳統的暈染法。色澤也從簡單的紅綠鮮明對比過渡到運用多種顏色,顯得更為綺麗典雅。龕楣裝飾藝術反應了從西域傳來的佛教藝術和中原本土文化藝術互相融合的過程。禪室楣飾是大千敦煌臨摹畫中為數不多的種類。
