    Published

    Exhibited:
Indian Miniatures from the Jeffrey Paley Collection, Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, 1974, August 6-September 30, 1974.

Paintings such as this were produced in Nepal for extensive series of illustrations to the Bhagavata Purana: more than one hundred paintings dealt with Book 10. The influence of central Indian painting has been suggested, though that of Guler is more likely, as Pal argues. For comparative examples, see, for instance, Sotheby's New York, The Carter Burden Collection of Indian Paintings, 27th March 1991, lots 16-19; P.
