Footnotes

  • This anonymous depiction of the Diamond Mountains (see also lot 6310) is of particular interest in that, in addition to familiar natural aspects of the landscape, in particular the countless formations of weathered granite and diorite, it also includes one of the most celebrated man-made sights in the locality: the famous triad of relief-carved images at the Sambulsa 삼불사 三佛寺 (Temple of the Three Buddhas), carved during the Goryeo period. In addition, the complex of buildings shown in a mountain clearing is likely either of two celebrated temples, the Pyohunsa표훈사 表訓寺or the Jeongyangsa 정양사 正陽寺.
