1952 Mercedes-Benz 220 Cabriolet A
Chassis no. 187.012.02779/52
Engine no. 180.920.02537/52
•One of Mercedes-Benz's first post-war 'sixes'
•Cosmetically restored
•Well equipped and finished
•Registered in Portugal

Introduced at the Frankfurt Auto Show in April 1951, the 220 was in effect a six-cylinder cousin of the 170 S on the same 2,845mm wheelbase chassis. Although closely based on the 170 S, the 220 featured more modern styling, updated with headlamps integrated into the wings. With 80bhp on tap courtesy of its 2.2-litre overhead-camshaft engine, the 220 saloon was good for a top speed of around 140km/h, as was the Cabriolet B, with 145km/h attainable by the drophead coupé-style Cabriolet A. In the best Mercedes-Benz tradition, both of these soft-tops were exceptionally well equipped. The combined total of Cabriolet A and B production amounted to only 2,360 in five years and today these models are both rare and highly sought after.

The Mercedes-Benz 220 Cabriolet A offered here has been treated to a high quality cosmetic restoration, including careful and thorough detailing of the engine and its ancillary components. The car is finished in a deep shade of red, with dark wood embellishment to the interior. The latter's tan leather upholstery shows negligible wear, and is complemented by matching carpets and a tan fabric convertible hood boasting elegant pram irons. Ready to be enjoyed, hood up or down, this well-appointed 220 Cabriolet comes complete with tool kit, hood bag and Portuguese registration papers.

•Kosmetische Restaurierung
•Reichhaltig ausgestattet
•In Portugal zugelassen
