•Rare post-war Mercedes-Benz model
•Delivered new to Switzerland
•Restored in the early 1990s
•Registered in Germany

In 1953 Mercedes-Benz began phasing in new models featuring unitary construction bodyshells that employed large, box-section side-members: hence the term 'Ponton'. All-round coil-sprung independent suspension had long been a fixture of the range, and that of the newcomers benefited from the newly developed single-pivot rear swing axle. Introduced for 1953, the first of the 'Ponton' era was the four-cylinder 180 saloon, while the first six-cylinder 'Ponton' was the 220a, which entered production in July 1954. Boasting a more powerful (85bhp) engine than its predecessor, the 220a would prove to be a relatively short-lived model, production ceasing in April 1956.

This 220a was first registered on 14th December 1955 in Zurich, Switzerland, and in 1992/1993 was completely restored by the second owner, as evidenced by numerous invoices and photographs on file. Originally finished in Moss Green, it has been repainted in Medium Blue (DB350) and has a grey interior. Boasting woodwork and upholstery to the highest standard, the latter remains in 'like new' condition and retains its original Becker valve radio. Now fitted with the 100bhp 220 S engine, the car has covered circa 10.500 km since restoration and is described by the vendor as in generally very good condition. Accompanying documentation consists of the aforementioned restoration records, German registration papers and TÜV valid until August 2017.

•Seltenes Mercedes-Benz Nachkriegsmodell
•Schweizer Erstauslieferung
•Restauriert Anfang der 1990er Jahre
•In Deutschland zugelassen
