Footnotes

  • The Military Seamaster 300 was manufactured for the British Forces under strict guidelines given by the Ministry of Defence. The official document includes the specifications of the solid bars for the attachment of a NATO style canvas strap, the bezel with minute register for the full 60 seconds, Tritium luminous paint applied to the hands and dial symbolised by a T in a circle and oversize hands for clear legibility. Due to the fact that this watch was very much a tool watch many were discarded, destroyed or changed making complete examples quite sought after.

The current lot is particularly unusual as it was issued specifically to the Royal Navy who utilised the Omega Seamaster 300 for most of the 1960s before moving onto the Rolex Submariner in 1971. It is reputed that having knowledge that Rolex Submariners were available some divers would intentionally damage the crown of their Omegas that they would be replaced by the then more desirable Rolex. As such the availability of military Omegas in working order can be harder to come by. A particularly nice feature of the current lot is the straight edged 3 on the bezel rather than a curved 3 which is complimented by the pointed tips of the 4 of the 40 next to it.
