Footnotes

  • 1937, the Coronation year of George VI saw the laying down of an extraordinary and unrepeatable cask at The Glenfiddich Distillery.

Single malt Scotch Whisky of this age is highly unusual. Normally the angels have taken their share (perhaps more) and the whisky has long since lost it's strength. Distilled on 17th July 1937, cask 843 defies this rule.

David Stewart, Master Distillers' comments "it is very much the exception to have a cask of this age that has kept it's strength, unsurprisingly it is woody and bronze in colour for a Glenfiddich. Cask 843 has the characteristically intense nose of a very old single malt whisky and is best enjoyed without the adition of water".

Glenfiddich Rare Collection 1937 is the oldest and rarest bottling ever undertaken at the distillery. Glenfiddich Rare Collection is truly unique.

    COLOUR:
Extraordinary, quite beautiful like a green fruit that has ripened to pink, then bronze.

    NOSE:
Huge bouquet, newly-dug peat, burnt heather, dried flowers, old books, leather, oak.

    PALATE:
Smooth, silky, wraps around the tongue, sweet, perfumy, toffee in icing sugar, then treacle toffee, creme brulee, toasted almonds.

    FINISH:
Bitter chocolate, cedar, oak, woody bitterness, very long and warming.

Tasting notes by Michael Jackson, Author, Malt Whisky Companion.
