Footnotes

  • Brothers George and Fred Goldman, owners of Goldman Jewelry Company, designed this beautiful diamond pendant brooch for their beloved sister, Sue Goldman Wolf at the Turn of the Century. This prominent Kansas City jewelry store, was founded in 1886 by their father, Lipman Goldman.

Drawing inspiration from 18th century French design, scrolling diamond set brooches, mounted in platinum-topped yellow gold, gained favor and popularity; the interest in Louis Revival spread into furniture and decorative arts. One of the most notable jewelry houses that promoted this style was Tiffany & Company.

Sue Goldman Wolf was active in the Kansas City community, she deemed this jewel important and wore it frequently whilst attending the most fashionable society events. Similarly, her brothers donated their free time to become pillars of society; as civic leaders and fundraising legends the Goldman family was respected in many of the diverse circles within their community. In recognition of George Goldman's work, he received the Benemerenti Medal from His Holiness Pope Pius XII in 1954.
