A fine and rare cased James Webley 2nd Model 'Longspur' five shot single action percussion revolver
retailed by William Dooley, Liverpool
Serial no. 884, .459 caliber (48 Bore). 6 1/2 inch blued octagonal barrel marked Wm. Dooley Ranelagh Street Liverpool. Birmingham proofs. Loading lever mounted on right side of frame. Chambers numbered 1 through 5. Rear of barrel, frame, loading lever, hammer, triggerguard and buttcap engraved with panels of scrollwork. Left side of frame marked Webley's/Patent. Top gripstrap serial numbered and inscribed By Her Majesty's Royal Letters Patent. Checkered walnut stock. Lanyard ring. Complete with green baize-lined mahogany case, the lid missing the escutcheon. Accessories include WD marked single cavity bullet mold, Dixon & Sons powder flask, cleaning rod, nipple wrench, screwdriver, oiler, japanned tin of lubricating composition, tin projectile magazine and Eley Bros. cap tin.
Condition: Very good to fine. Barrel retains 70-80% plus blue with balance turned to brown. Cylinder and frame with smooth, mottled patina. Excellent wood. Case lid with scattered marks and hairline crack. Lining showing moderate wear and staining. Accessories very good to fine.
