Serial no. 36S53, .442 caliber (54 Bore). 5 3/4 inch octagonal barrel, London proofs; top marked P. Bouron & Son Gunsmiths & Importers 538 Charles Street New Orleans, Louisiana. Serial numbered cylinder. Blued finish. Finely checkered walnut grip. Buttcap inscribed Gen'l/William Martin. Complete with green baize-lined mahogany case, the back edge of the interior marked P Bouron & Son/Gunsmiths & Importers and 538 Charles Street/New Orleans, Louisiana. Accessories include Tranter-marked two-cavity bullet mold, Dixon & Sons powder flask and oiler, nipple wrench, screwdriver, cleaning rod and Joyce cap tin. Also included is a folder containing biographical information on General Martin.
Condition: Excellent. Revolver retains 95% plus dark blue finish showing light edge wear and some minor spotting. Excellent wood. Case exterior with minor marks. Lining with some staining and small tear. Accessories very good to fine.

    General William Thomas Martin, 1823-1910, admitted to the bar in 1844, he raised a troop of cavalry in 1861 which he took to Richmond after the capture of Ft. Sumter. Successively promoted Major, Lt. Col. and Colonel of the Jeff Davis Legion, he commanded the rear third of Stuart's column in the famous 'ride around McClellan' in 1862. Present at the battles of the Seven Days and Sharpsburg, he was commissioned Brigadier General on December 2, 1862 and was ordered west where he commanded a division in the Tullahoma campaign and at Chickamauga, and accompanied Longstreet to Knoxville. Major General, November 10, 1863. During the Atlanta campaign, he commanded a division in Wheeler's Corps. At the close of the war he was commander of the District of Northwest Mississippi. After the war he was active in Mississippi politics and was President of the Natchez, Jackson and Columbus Railroad.
