Chevrolet Impala Super Sport cabriolet 1965

1965 Chevrolet Impala Super Sport Convertible
Chassis no. 516667019671

•Iconic top-of-the-range model
•Un-restored condition
•A wonderful piece of classic Americana

Originally applied to two-door hardtop coupé and convertible versions of Chevrolet's Bel Air in 1958, the Impala name was subsequently used in its own right to signify a top-of-the-range luxury trim level rather than a separate and distinct body style. Marketed as 'All New, All Over Again', the 1959 Chevrolets were altogether more modern in appearance, being longer, lower and wider than before. Glass areas were vast, while other styling innovations included 'bat wing' rear fenders, 'cat's eye' tail lamps and an enormous rear deck seemingly big enough to land a helicopter on. This '2nd Generation' Impala lasted until the announcement of the 1961 line-up, which was restyled on General Motors' existing 'B' platform, emerging with a more compact, boxy appearance. Many buyers chose to enhance their cars by specifying the 'Super Sport' package of (mainly) cosmetic improvements before the 'Impala Super Sport' became a distinct two-door model line - Chevrolet's most expensive - in its own right for 1964.

This Impala Super Sport has the 327ci (5,360cc) V8 engine, manual transmission and electrically operated convertible hood. Offered from the long-term ownership of the Dutch importer, it is un-restored and in mostly original condition, and comes with Netherlands registration papers. A rare and highly collectible example of elegant General Motors styling, this cool Impala Super Sport is the very embodiment of space, spirit and splendour.
