Ducati's second-generation v-twin engine, the 900cc 'square case' (actual capacity 864cc), debuted in the 860 GT of 1974 and the following year was used to power the new 900 SS superbike, which was styled like the original 750 SS that had been developed from Paul Smart's 1972 Imola winner. More than just a simple over-bore, the 'square case' engine incorporated a new camshaft drive arrangement, improved oil pump, cartridge-type oil filter and electronic ignition. In 1982 the 900 SS was replaced by the restyled 900 S2, which added an electric starter to the specification. Only 1,236 were made between 1982 and 1984. Presented in outstandingly original condition, this rare bevel-drive Ducati has recorded only 63,904 kilometres from new and comes with Swedish registration papers.
