Yamaha's ascension as a major player in the motorcycle market can be traced back to 1968 when using technology developed in GP roadracing, the company introduced a new series of oil-injected two-stroke twins ranging from 90 to 350cc. The 125cc AS1, using race-derived 'boost ports' to more fully scavenge its cylinders, was particularly impressive, capable of an honest 70mph, much to the embarrassment of larger four-stroke machines. This first-year AS1, having traveled just 6,000 miles, is unusually complete, including its original twin exhaust pipes with heat shields, canister-style air cleaners and easily lost side covers.
