A large Egyptian wood figure of Osiris
Late Period, circa 664-30 B.C.
The standing mummified figure, wearing the atef crown, with bronze uraeus each side of the crown with recesses for securing the bronze side plumes, now missing, the sensitively carved face with recessed eyes for inlay, shown holding a crook and a flail, the lower legs missing, with dark brown bitumen stained surface, 42cm high

    A collection label on the back in black ink relates: '...bought at Lord St Audries sale in 1925.' Another label on the underside of the wood base, written by Joan Wilson notes: 'Sir Ronald Cambell (sic) saw this statuette and remarked to his wife "How strange to come to England and see a real one when Cairo is full of fakes". He was a collector himself.' Above the note an obituary newspaper entry is attached: '..... April 22 1983....., the Rt Hon Sir Ronald Ian Campbell, P.C, G.C.M.G, C.B, of Somerfield House, Sidegate, Haddington. (Formerly H.M. Ambassador in Cairo)......'
