The Lock Signed Work Of Muhammad And Dated 1145 A.H. Corresponding To 1732 A.D., The Barrel Dated 1245 A.H. Corresponding To 1829 A.D.
With long swamped octagonal sighted barrel of twist damascus pattern finely gold-damascened along the top flats over its entire length with running flower-heads and foliage flanked by arabesques, the top flats in front of the breech gold-damascened with poetic verses in thuluth flanking the Qur'anic verse 'There is no power but God's' in thuluth and the date, and retained by five gilt-brass barrel bands engraved with foliage and wrigglework, the rear one carrying a saddle back-sight with foliate and crescent and star terminals, tang damascened en suite with the barrel, characteristic lock signed and dated on two inlaid gold-inlaid panels beneath, retained by three side-nails, and decorated overall with gold panels chased with foliate scrollwork against stippled grounds, figured hardwood three-quarter stock with flared butt, gilt-mounts engraved en suite with the barrel bands and comprising butt-plate, fore-end cap (some loss of gilding) and long tubular ramrod tip, gilt baluster trigger, and original wooden ramrod
