inset with three Jasperware tablets depicting putti and two classical maidens each carrying a basket of flowers on her head, the superstructure with three bevelled glass inset panels, above a central glazed panelled door enclosing a mirrored back and one later glass shelf, flanked by two arched multiple panelled doors enclosing two adjustable shelves, stamped: 'LAMB, MANCHESTER, 1338', 185cm wide, 48cm deep, 193cm high (72 1/2in wide, 18 1/2in deep, 75 1/2in high).

  • Founded by James Lamb (1816-1903) in the middle of the 19th century, Lamb of Manchester rapidly established itself as one of the leading cabinet making firms in the region. Known for their dedication to high quality construction and elegant design, the company gained acclaim for producing important Aesthetic and Gothic revival pieces throughout the latter half of the 19th century.

    Lamb of Manchester worked in conjunction with some of the most renowned designers of the day including Bruce Talbot and Charles Bevan. After their major contribution to the Great Exhibition of 1862 in London, the firm also went on to exhibit in the Paris exhibitions of 1867 and 1868, where they won medals for some of their more magnificent pieces.

and 13.9% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £3,000,000.

VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
