The machine offered here was one of a sizeable batch despatched from the factory in 1970 for delivery to Husqvarna's United States importer, Med International of San Diego, Los Angeles. Original documentation on file lists 'MH 3418' as one of these machines and identifies it as that assigned to factory rider Bengt Aberg, who had clinched his second Moto-Cross World Championship in the 500cc class that year as well as forming part of the victorious Swedish team in the Moto-Cross des Nations. Off-road motorcycle racing had long been popular in North America, but at this time European-type moto-cross was in its infancy there.

To promote the sport, and the Husqvarna motorcycles he was selling, Med International's boss Edison Dye had instigated the InterAm Series in 1968, inviting the best of European riders to show the Americans how it should be done. Run from October through to December, the 1970 InterAm consisted of ten rounds, final victory going to Maico's Ake Jonsson with Aberg in 2nd place. At the final race of the series at Saddleback Park, California, Aberg had been closing on leader Jonsson only to drop back, his progress hampered by a crack in the swinging arm that was only discovered later when the bike was loaned to Cycle World magazine for a track test!

Med International's original document requesting repair of Aberg's Husky 'MH 3418' is on file. 'MH 3418' was then sold to a dealer in California where it was rediscovered many years later by Rob Phillips, proprietor of marque specialists Husky Restorations. Restored by Rob Phillips, the ex-Aberg Husqvarna was sold to the current vendor in January 2011 and road-registered in the UK in January 2012. The sales agreement and UK V5C registration document are in the history file together with a substantial quantity of original paperwork, contemporary magazine articles and reports (close inspection recommended).
