PRESENTATION COPY FOR FELLOW SCREENWRITER HAROLD GOLDMAN FROM F SCOTT "FADE OUT" FITZGERALD. Inscribed and signed by the author on the front free endpaper: "For Harold Goldman / This tale of life in the movie colony modern—fast-moving—epic—delightful reading of course ('Ranks with Moliere' Dorothy Dix') / from F Scott ('Fade-out') Fitzgerald / 1937" For a description of the friendship between Harold Goldman and F. Scott Fitzgerald, see preceding lot. Dorothy Dix was the most prominent advice columnist of the time.
Interestingly, either Fitzgerald or Goldman purchased the present volume, prior to inscription, at Stanley Rose Bookshop. It is the 17th printing of the title, one of only 290 copies. Rose's bookshop was an important gathering place for pre-War Hollywood literati, located on Vine Street off Hollywood Blvd. Bruccoli A5.1.q.
