An extremely rare Meissen model of a nodding pagoda (Wackelpagoda), circa 1745
Seated against a purple cushion decorated with indianische Blumen on a gilt-edged, canted rectangular base, with folded hands, wearing a purple-lined, gilt-edged white tunic decorated with indianische Blumen, yellow trousers and purple shoes with gilt floral decoration, mounted with a nodding head and hinged tongue, delicately picked out in flesh tones 19cm high (some restoration)

    Two examples of this model, with a differently modelled head, were in the C.H. Fischer Collection, Dresden, sold by J.M. Heberle, Cologne, 22-25 October 1906, lots 964 and 965. A related Chinaman on the same base and with the same collar and indianische Blumen on the cloak, but with fixed head is in the collection of the Hermitage, St. Petersburg (illustrated by L. Liackhova, The Myth of the Orient (2007), cat.no. 85).

27.5% on the first £2,500 of the hammer price;
25% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £2,500 up to and including £300,000;
20% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £300,000 up to and including £3,000,000;
and 13.9% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £3,000,000.

VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
