Lot 1361
1852 Augustus Humbert $50, 887 THOUS. XF Details - Smoothed PCGS
K-11, R.5. The impressive octagonal "slugs" made by Augustus Humbert are among the most iconic U.S. issues, although they are usually collected as part of the Territorial series despite being made under the auspices of the U.S. Assay Office. This example exhibits good remaining detail, even the obverse periphery is quite sharp and clearly visible to the unaided eye. Typical edge bumps are noted as often occur on this heavy coin. The surfaces are slightly porous due to burnishing, however, this does not overly detract from this coin's appearance. A personal inspection is recommended. Listed on page 381 of the 2014 Guide Book. (PCGS 10016)
