Lot 1127
1795 Small Eagle $5 AU58 PCGS
BD-3, High R.3. 1795 marks the premier year that gold coins were struck at the U.S. Mint, both half eagles and eagles. The historically significant 1795 Small Eagle five dollar coin holds tremendous numismatic and historical significance at all levels of preservation. This is a very nice, well preserved survivor, both sides with handsome patination in a mostly honey-golden color, slightly deeper at the rims. Well centered and evenly struck throughout with no visible adjustment marks. Minimal wear shows (indicative of the assigned grade) on the highpoints of the design. For future identification, a vertical mark is right of the 5 of the date under Liberty's bust, and some small scuffs are in the fields. Worthy of a close examination and a solid bid for the quality-conscious gold type collector. (PCGS 8066)
