Footnotes

  • An early 19th century toasting or flesh fork with the name 'A. COOPER' and the date '1816' inlaid in brass, is illustrated R. Butler, A Study Collection of Marked Domestic Brass and Other Base Metalware c. 1600 - c. 1900, p. 25, No. 36. It is noted that 'the art of inlaying blacksmith's work with brass deserves research. It is uncommon and may be regional.'

Many examples appear to have been made in Pennsylvania, USA.
