A late 17th/early 18th century iron two-pronged cooking or meat fork
Of two curving tines, the square-section stem centred by a moulded knop, broadening at both top and bottom and decorated with lines and notches to its edges, the handle topped by a disc terminal which is folded back and tapers to form a loop, an iron hanging loop attached, 49.5cm long (19in long)

  • A fork with a comparable stem, but a heart instead of a disc terminal, is illustrated J. Seymour Lindsay, Iron & Brass Implements of the English House (1970), Figure 177.

    It is possible that this fork is from Pennsylvania, USA. See a similar example, with the same broadening of the stem at top and bottom, sold Christie's, 21st January 2006, Lot 622.

Buyers' Premium and Charges

For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:

Buyer's Premium Rates
27.5% on the first £20,000 of the hammer price;
26% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £20,000 up to and including £700,000;
20% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £700,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.

VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
