Footnotes

  • Hudson Roysher was born in Cleveland, OH in 1911. Roysher studied at the Cleveland School of Art and Western Reserve University. He earned an M.B.A. degree at USC, later teaching industrial design there (1939-42) and at Chouinard Art Institute (1945-50), and then UCLA. He contributed to Craft Horizon, American Artist, Design, and other national magazines. Roysher died in La Jolla, CA in 1998. He was a member: Cleveland AA; Calif. Art Club; American Society of Industrial Designers. His life of craft was a conscious reaction to industrial mass production; his overall theme was simplicity. Eventually he moved into the production of ecclesiastical and ceremonial commissions for numerous churches throughout Southern California, including All Saints Episcopal Church of Beverly Hills, St. Brigid's Roman Catholic Church of Los Angeles, St. Catherine's Military School Chapel in Anaheim, and St. Paul's in the Desert Episcopal Church of Palm Springs.
